Surah Ma'araj is the 77th surah and one of the Meccan surahs of the Qur'an, which is located in chapter 29. The naming of this surah as Ma'araj (i.e. "Degrees") is due to the use of this word in its third verse. Surah Ma'araj begins by narrating the story of someone who asked God for punishment for himself. Then he describes the characteristics of the Resurrection and some of the characteristics of the believers and the condition of the unbelievers, and finally he warns the polytheists and disbelievers and tells about the Resurrection. Regarding the revelation of verses 1 to 3 of Surah Ma'arj, these verses are related to the incident of Ghadeer and a person who did not accept the governorship of Imam Ali (AS). In virtue of reciting this Surah from the Prophet (PBUH), whoever recites Surah Ma'araj, God will give him the reward of those who keep their trust and promises and those who pay attention to their prayers.
