Surah Alaq or Iqra is the ninety-sixth surah and one of the Meccan surahs of the Qur'an, which is placed in the thirtieth chapter. The name of the surah is derived from its second verse, which refers to the creation of man from blood (alaq). The first five verses of this sura are considered the first verses revealed to the Prophet of Islam (pbuh).
