42-form tai chi combines movements from the Chen, Yang, Wu, and Sun styles of traditional Tai Chi Chuan ( taiji quan ).
It was founded in 1988 by Wushu Research Institute experts to create an International standard of tai chi chuan competition routine (comprehensive 42 styles). On the 11th Asian Games in 1990, the 42-style tai chi chuan martial arts was included for the first time in the competition.
