Mafatih al-Jannan (meaning the keys of the heavens) is the name of the most common prayer book among the Shiites. This book is a collection of prayers, supplications, pilgrimages, special deeds for the days of the year and the month, and religious customs that have been narrated from the Prophet of Islam and the Shiite Imams and scholars. Usually, at the beginning of Mafatih al-Jannan, several long and small chapters of the Qur'an are printed. Mafatih was published in Mashhad in 1344 AH and became epidemic in a short time. This book is found in the houses and holy places of the Shiites of Iran and is often the only source used by many Shiites around the world for recommended acts and on religious occasions.
